Oklahoma drivers pay around $678 per year for auto insurance, less than drivers in 37 other states. If you’re paying too much, you need to know where to find low cost Oklahoma auto insurance quotes. Here’s where.

Shop Online

The fastest and easiest way to purchase a low cost Oklahoma auto policy is to shop online. Insurance comparison websites are available that let you type in your information and get fast quotes from multiple A-rated insurance companies. All you have to do then is compare your quotes and choose the best one.

On the best comparison websites, you can even talk to insurance professionals online or on the phone, and get answers to your questions, plus get advice on how to lower your premium (see link below).

How Much Insurance Do I Need?

In Oklahoma, you are required to carry the following minimum amounts of liability insurance:

* $25,000 for injury or death of one person

* $50,000 for injury or death of two or more persons

* $25,000 for property damage

The insurance comparison website will ensure that you enter at least these minimum levels. Of course, you can always select additional types of coverage such as:

* Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage

* Towing and labor coverage

* Personal injury protection

* Comprehensive and collision coverage

Are There Any Other Ways I Can Keep My Costs Down?

There are many ways smart consumers can lower their annual premiums. For example, if you choose to carry comprehensive and collision coverage to pay for repairs to your vehicle after an accident, set the deductibles as high as you can afford. Higher deductibles mean lower annual premiums.

You can also keep your costs down by taking advantage of discounts. Auto insurance companies offer many types of discounts that reduce your annual premium. For example, you can get a discount for taking a defensive-driving course or for being accident-free for a certain number of years. Ask your insurance professional about other discounts you might qualify for.

By: Brian Stevens

About the Author:

You were on the phone, got distracted and before you knew it traffic had stopped, giving you no room to stop and you rear end the girl in front of you. Or, let’s say you’re driving along and a deer jumps out and rams into the side of your door.

Now, let’s say you need to file and claim and get your car fixed. But, are your rates going to go up?

In the first case, more than likely they will depending on how much your insurance company pays out to fix both cars and medical bills if anyone was injured.

But, in the second example, since this will be a comprehensive claim your rates should not see an increase at your renewal. Unless you have a long history of hitting deer then the people from PETA will be out to get you. Or if you file a lot of small glass damage claims then your rates could be affected or you may have to pay a higher deductible for comprehensive in which case small glass damage will be less than your deductible and you will pay out of pocket.

Part 2: How long does an accident stay on my record?

Ok, so back to the example where you rear ended someone. We have already established that you are going to see your insurance rates go up. Now, we need to find out how long and how much will they go up.

State insurance boards usually allow insurance companies to charge for a accident for 3 years from the day they started charging for it. Not from the time you got into the accident. You got in the accident in December and your policy runs from October to April. Your rates won’t be affected until April of the next year and the surcharge will drop off 3 years from that April.

How much will your rates go up? Are they trying to get back the money they paid out for my claim? You can usually expect a rate increase of between 20-40% on average per six months. They could go up even more if you lose some discounts you were getting, such as a claim free discount.

The increase is not a recoupment of the monies paid out by your insurance company. It is designed to charge you a premium based on the risk, or chance, that you will get into another accident in the next 3 years. You are a higher risk to the insurance company and they are able to charge you for the higher risk you present to them.

If it was based on how much the insurance company paid out then you wouldn’t be able to afford it if you totaled out your 2004 Nissan Maxima at $25,000 and you had to pay that back within the 3 year surcharge period. Makes sense? Good, now get off the cell phone!

By:

About the Author:

What does financial responsibility mean?

Like all other states, Arizona has financial responsibility laws which means that if you are involved in an accident you will be asked to present proof of your ability to cover the cost of damages caused up to a minimum amount. To comply with this law most drivers buy automobile liability insurance.

What type of automobile liability insurance am I required to have according Arizona Auto Insurance Law ?

Arizona Auto Insurance Law requires that you have Bodily Injury liability and Property Damage Liability

What are the minimum liability limits?

According to Arizona Auto Insurance Law, the minimum amount of liability coverage needed for personal injury is $15,000 person and $30,000 per accident.

The minimum amount of liability coverage needed for property damage is $10,000. This will usually appear on the policy in the form 15/30/10.

When will I be required to present proof of Insurance?

Within 30 days of registration. If you’ve had an accident you will be required to present proof of Insurance/financial responsibility at the time of the accident. Further, the State requires that you have proof of insurance at all times in your vehicle. In most cases a card issued by the insurer is sufficient.

Will my insurer required to verify the validity of my insurance policy?

Yes. According to Arizona Auto Insurance Law, if you’ve had an accident or you have been arrested, your insurance company will be required to verify that your policy is in good standing. Your insurance company must also inform the Arizona Department of Motor Vehicle if you cancel or fail to renew your policy. And according to Arizona computer data law, insurance companies are required to submit their entire list of policies in force, which the State may compare with registrations.

What are the penalties for non-compliance to the financial responsibility law?

A $250 fine.

What are the laws governing AZ liability insurance

Liability insurance in Arizona is based on the tort liability system. This means that if you were involved in an accident that is not your fault you and/or your passengers have the right to sue the party at fault for pain and suffering, and for other out-of-pocket expenses such as medical costs.

ARIZONA DUI/DRUNK DRIVING LAWS

What is the BAC (blood alcohol content) limit is the state of Arizona?

The BAC (blood alcohol content) limit for the state of Arizona is .08

Will I have my license revoked or suspended if my BAC is above 0.08?

According to Arizona Auto Insurance Law, yes. If you are pulled over by an officer and your BAC test result returns a reading above .08 you will face an on-the-spot driver’s license revocation or suspension. Further, if you refuse to take the BAC test your license will still be revoked or suspended.

What is the implied consent law?

Like most states, Arizona has the implied consent law. This law is base on the premise that because you choose to drive on the streets and highways of the state, you have given your consent to submit to the BAC and or urine test to ascertain alcohol or drug levels.

What is the penalty for violating the implied consent law?

The mandatory penalty for violation of the implied consent law in Arizona is suspension or revocation of one’s driving privilege.

Are preliminary breath tests permitted my law in Arizona?

According to Arizona Auto Insurance Law, yes. In states where it is permitted by law, sometimes an officer will do a preliminary breath test on-the-spot to confirm that you are actually under the influence. An alcosensor machine, a hand-held device, is often used. Although its results are not admissible in court, if the machine returns a positive reading, you may be taken to a police station the take the actual BAC test.

What is DUI Plea Bargain?

In a DUI plea bargain, the driver charged with DUI agrees to plea guilty to a lesser charge than one for which she could stand trial. When this happens, she receives a more lenient sentence, and/or have certain related charges dropped. The DUI plea bargain is prohibited in Arizona.

What is the open container law?

The open container law makes it illegal for the driver and passengers to have unsealed alcohol containers in an automobile passenger compartments.

ARIZONA SEAT-BELT LAWS

Are seat-belt laws enforced in the State of Arizona?

Yes. As of January 1, 1991, driver and all passengers are required to wear seat-belts in the State of Arizona.

Are seat-belt laws primary or secondary in Arizona?

Seat-belt laws in Arizona are NOT primary. Primary enforcement means that an officer may stop an automobile and issue a ticket for violation of the seat-belt law. Secondary enforcement means that the officer may issue a ticket for not using seat-belt if and only if the driver was stopped for some other violation.

What are the fines for noncompliance to seat-best laws in AZ?

$10

LAWS GOVERNING OLDER DRIVERS

Am I required to perform medical, knowledge, road, or vision retests when I renew my license?

Retesting for all drivers is usually required for vision, road retesting is only required under certain conditions. For example, if you’ve had too many accidents over a certain period of time.

Is my doctor required to report a physical condition that may affect my ability to drive safely?

NO

Is there an age limit on driver’s license renewals

Yes. 70 years.

LAWS GOVERNING TEENAGE AND YOUNGER DRIVERS

Do teenage drivers require graduated licensing?

YES. All states have graduated licensing (a rigorous learning period before full driving privileges are granted) laws for drivers 15 to 18 years old.

For what period of time are teenagers required to maintain a learners permit? For a minimum of six (6) months.

Are teens required to own an intermediate or provisional driver’s license before they a granted full driving privileges?

No.

Do young drivers have certain restrictions on night driving?

No.

Can teenage drivers carry the maximum number of passengers allowed in a vehicle?

Yes.

OK. What about BAC (blood alcohol content) level? Are there restrictions on that too?

I **** to be the bearer of bad news, but the answer is yes. Although the BAC level for other drivers is 0.08, Arizona drivers under the age of 21 years with a BAC level greater that 0 (yes zero) could be charged with DUI.

By: Richard Cunninghamm

About the Author:

shorty asked:

“i was sent to prison in the state of oklahoma for for d.u.i. gone for 2 years my wife and i were married in 91 we have 1 daughter. while i was away the wife got state assistance and lived in public housing( h.u.d.)when i returned home the state of oklahoma filed a case against me claiming i owed money, back support and demanded current support.we made it together until we got off the assistance and out of public housing.this year the state took 2700 dollars of our tax money. in September i had a auto accident, insurance took 100% responsibility, but said that oklahoma(the state) had put a hold or claim on the accident that caused me loss of wages and medical expenses.insurance is in texas can the state of oklahoma do this to me/? what can i do to stop this from happening? can they intercept funds that are from a personal injury accident from insurance company out of my state?
what can i do to stop the state from invading my families right to privacy, and what do i do to get legal help for civil rights violations?
“thank you ! ranger. i have worked since the age of 7 mowing lawns with grandpa and i have worked my whole adult life.my incarcation was for d.u.i. that i contended but was prosecuted without counsel after detailing the corrupt police officers actions to our district attorney. he called me a liar, he stated the judge wanted 10 years i disagreed and the court proceeded and procetuted without me being represented.i no a fool is his own attorney but no one would listen to me.deciding 10 years was not fair” they sent me to a jury trial,i had to go for to jail for 2 years 2,500 fine.child support arrears and currentsupport was ordered after my release.while my wife had to live on public assistance i began to work for myself doing odd jobs lawns, tree triming whatever.its very hard to get employment after going to prison.no visiting rights were given me, the state said i needed to divorce my wife before any visiting rights would be levied either party.we decided to keep our marriage.(help)?
PLEASE CALL I NEED ANY LEGAL ADVICEIS APPRECIATED580-226=2351(oklahoma)

Ron

Now, I was hurting at the scene but to say I was injured well…How do insurance companies take to people who claim injury after the fact. I know it is possible to have injuries show up later but this guy was all over the place at the scene. Any input? thanks

Audrey
